If making sales is a prime objective of your social media strategy, pay close attention to the results of Bizrate Insights’ recent survey of Facebook and Pinterest users.
While Facebook certainly outranks Pinterest in volume, Pinterest trounces Facebook as a vehicle to promote sales. When respondents were asked why they use each social media site, Pinterest far surpassed Facebook on shopping-related reasons. Take a look at these differences:
“To get inspiration on what to buy”
Pinterest: 70%
Facebook: 17%
“To keep up with the latest trends on things I like”
Pinterest: 67%
Facebook: 22%
“To associate with retailers or brands with which I identify”
Pinterest: 43%
Facebook: 24%
“To get special offers from retailers, brands or people that I’ve pinned/followed”
Pinterest: 39%
Facebook: 26%
In light of Pinterest’s tagline – “collect and organize the things you love” – it’s no surprise that the site attracts users who are in buying mode. Online retailers consistently praise it as a prime source of referral traffic.
