Just this week, Facebook has announced a partnership with Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, that may have long-term implications for search engine marketing. With the help of Facebook Instant Personalization, Bing will start customizing search results based on what users’ friends have liked on Facebook. At some point down the road, they plan to include “like” data from friends alongside search results, when appropriate.
If this new partnership gets traction, it can have a significant impact on both search marketing and social media marketing. Will it help Bing grab more market share from Google? Will Facebook marketing become essential? Will historic search algorithms diminish in importance? Only time will tell. What do you see ahead as a result of this new partnership?
