Google has just unveiled their newest twist on search, Google Instant. As Google explains, Google Instant “takes what you have typed already, predicts the most likely completion and streams results in real-time for those predictions.” Touted as a time-saver for searchers, it should theoretically result in better qualified site traffic and more traffic from long-tail keywords — very specific search terms that are several words in length.
So far, I’ve found my attempts to use it rather frustrating. I’ve been slowed down by reading through a list of suggestions that are not what I’m looking for. I expect that over time, Google will refine the system. When that happens, it’s likely that long-tail keywords will grow in importance for increasing paid search rankings.
