Today, the last in a series of posts reporting on the 2010 Social Media Marketing Industry Report: what lies ahead for social media marketing?
The Report summarizes findings from an annual survey on the use of social media. Among other questions, respondents were asked whether their use of 10 specific social media platforms would increase, decrease, stay the same or not be used at all in the near future. Here’s how the majority answered:
Increase use:
Blogs (81%)
Facebook (76%)
Video (73%)
Twitter (71%)
LinkedIn (67%)
Forums (42%)
Social bookmarking (41%)
No plans to use:
Digg, Reddit, Mixx, Stumbleupon (38%)
Ning sites (57%)
MySpace (72%)
I’ve long felt that most companies could benefit from paying more attention to blogs and video and less to Facebook and Twitter. Consequently, as I pleasantly surprised to see blogs and video among the top three platforms in the “increase” column.
How about you? Where do you get the biggest bang for your social media buck?
