While you’re busy ramping up your email marketing, don’t let the world pass you by. A recent study by Pew Internet & American Life Project shows that, while 91% of all US adults use email, it’s losing ground among younger generations.
In 2004, 89% of teens said they used email. By the end of last year, that number dropped to just 73%. Among that group, social networking, blogging and instant messaging are gaining ground as preferred means of communication.
Will the trend continue and expand to older generations? It’s hard to say, but it’s quite possible, especially considering the rapid growth of social networking among older demographic groups.
Email is still in its prime, but don’t underestimate the power of social networking, blogging and other up-and-coming forms of communication. The world keeps changing, and they may be “the new email” before you know it.
