A surge of “do not mail” legislative bills pending in numerous states has catalog companies running scared. Yet as an industry, we seem to be doing a pretty poor job of speaking up on our own behalf.
In addition to doing your share to be environmentally responsible, make sure your customers know about your efforts. Along those lines, I was pleased to see the following message printed prominently on the back cover of the Cuddledown catalog I recently received:
Environmental Awareness
Shopping at home is an environmentally sound alternative to driving between energy consuming stores and malls. If you prefer not to receive this catalog, please recycle it or pass it long to a friend, and let us know so we can take you off our mailing list. The paper this catalog is printed on is made in the United States from trees that are responsibly farmed for pulp, and our soy-based ink makes it easily recyclable.
By setting a good example of environmental stewardship and by communicating our efforts to our customers, we can all help change public opinion a little bit at a time.
